Aaron was diagnosed in utero with Spina Bifida. He is followed regularly by 5 pediatric specialties at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Since birth he has had 15 surgeries along with numerous appointments with imaging (x-rays, CT scans and MRI), the lab, various procedures and doctor’s visits. Aaron spent 5 years as a Cub Scout; he earned the Arrow of Light and crossed over into Boy Scouts. Aaron is a very active athlete. Aaron played wheelchair basketball for 7 years. He plays Sled Hockey with the Chicago Hornets and participates in wheelchair track with the HF Track team. Aaron is a senior at Homewood-Flossmoor High school where he has earned the honor of Student of the Quarter twice. He attends Snowball each year and is a member of the Chess Team. He is also active in SOAR (youth group at church). Aaron is excited about attending college in the fall. He has been accepted at four schools so far and plans to attend University of Wisconsin – Whitewater.
Aaron and members of the Homewood-Flossmoor Master Singers will be visiting 4 countries over Spring Break next year. From March 25 to April 2nd, 2016, the students will visit Budapest, Hungary; Vienna, Austria; Bratislava, Slovakia and Prague, Czech Republic. They will visit many notable attractions in each of these cities in addition to performing while there. Highlights include an evening cruise on the Danube River, a visit to the Prater Amusement Park and a Vienna by Night tour.
Aaron’s neurosurgeon and the choir director agree that a parent will need to accompany Aaron due to his complex medical issues. Even though Aaron auditioned for the choir and was accepted, his participation on the tour was in jeopardy because of the expense. Rather than pay for just one student to go on Tour, it is now times two! We are SO grateful to the Cameron Can Foundation for giving Aaron this grant to allow him to go on Tour. Without the grant and tremendous support from our Homewood community, Aaron and I would not be able to go.
